He has been a JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science \/ \u65e5\u672c\u5b66\u8853\u632f\u8208\u4f1a) postdoctoral fellow at the Graduate School of East Asian Cultures of Kansai University. Tola specializes in Chinese studies, focusing his research on lexicography, lexicology, and missionary linguistics. His first monograph, John Fryer and The Translator\u2019s Vade-mecum: New Perspectives on the History of Modern Chinese Scientific and Technical Lexicon, was published in 2021 by Brill.
